A Summary of Photography

Photography had defined the world we live in since it was made practical in the 1800's.  Early names some may recognize include Johann Zahn, Joseph Nicephore Niepce, Louis Daquerre and Henry Fox Tablot.  It wasn't until the invention of film by George Eastman in 1889 that made photography a real and lasting form of art.  Since that time, millions of photos have been taken using many types of film and, in the present day, digital cameras.

The saying that "a picture is worth a thousand words" is by no means an overstatement.  Indeed, many photographers have been in the right place at the right time and have captured some of the most famous and lasting photographs that will continue to inspire others for generations to come.  Photography is just as much a political force as it is an art form, and as a science.

While much of the "science" of photography is no longer needed to get a good photograph thanks to digital devices, the physics behind taking a photograph matter for those who still use a professional camera in favor of a smartphone, and it is that science which sets serious photography apart from casually taking pictures.
